St Laurence’s Primary uses the Positive Behaviours for Learning framework (PBL). Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) is an evidence-based framework that brings together the whole-school community to contribute to developing a positive, safe and supportive learning culture. The framework assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people.
This framework teaches and reinforces positive behaviours in our school community and brings together the whole-school community to contribute to developing a positive, safe and supportive culture.
Our schoolwide social behavioural expectations are to be:
- Respectful - being kind to others and having good manners
- Responsible - making good choices to do the right thing
- Safe - behaving in a way that keeps everyone free from harm
To assist students to learn these schoolwide social behavioural expectations we:
- Identify PBL focuses and explicitly teach the behavioural expectations
- Provide ongoing specific positive reinforcement (Gotchas) and feedback to students who display these behavioural expectations
- Follow a cycle of presenting clear behaviours, explicitly teaching behavioural expectations, re-teaching, supporting and reinforcing students demonstrating behavioral expectations
